Pre-Travel Thoughts
Welcome to our Bahamas Trip J-Term Blog Page! Traveling abroad has us extremely excited and a little nervous. Before getting on the plane to our amazing destination we spent the past three days on campus in a classroom learning some basics about marine ecology. Additionally, we all had the chance to test out our snorkeling gear and practice surface diving in the PLU pool.
The class material is pretty dense and fast paced with a lot of reading material. Lectures were interesting and include primary literature with fairly new information to us. We have learned about how coral reefs are made, specific environmental requirements needed to support such diversity, and about seagrasses to name a few concepts. We do have an exam coming up on this Sunday that we are mostly planning to study for during our long travel day. Learning so much information in such a short amount of time makes us nervous for what the test will entail.
Packing has been a whirlwind these past few days! However all of us have our most essential items our passports, which we were required to send a selfie of to show that we had it in our "hot little hands" as Dr. Behrens likes to say. We are excited to get up early tomorrow morning to head to the airport and are ready to begin our travels!
