We Had a Shell of a Time

We would like to report our first full day in the Bahamas! We enjoyed the sun and water on the island of Nassau before and after our first (and luckily only) exam. We have photo evidence that we actually took it. So it is possible to do some work in the Bahamas :)

Before the exam, we beat jet-leg by waking up before 9 am to hit the books. A few of us who ventured to the beach in the morning got some impromptu lessons about coral and sea grass we found washed up on the shore.

After 4 hours of serious study we went to an empty ballroom to show off our new marine biology knowledge. We generally agreed that taking that exam made us feel a bit like detritus (new vocab- decaying organic matter), but the sunshine afterwards made it all worthwhile. When we get in the water all of our new knowledge will come in very handy!

We reunited at the beach to snorkel, relax, and eat beach side food. In our snorkeling practice we had a few notable sightings:
-Small Octopus
-Massive Sand Dollar "bigger than the octopus"-Luke N.
-Southern Stingray
-Needlefish
-Small Squid
-Huge Sea Urchins
And tons of colorful fishes (that is a appropriate use of that term- We know we were just tested on it :) )

To celebrate a successful first day we all went out to dinner at Senor Frog, a beach side restaurant. As the largest group in the room we were called out by the host to participate in some games and as enthusiastic LutesAway we won!

We are finishing off the evening with board games in the hotel lobby and group bonding time. Mentally preparing for our flight to San Salvador tomorrow starting our journey bright and early tomorrow.
