What a Boat-iful day out here!

Today we got up early for breakfast at 7:30 AM as normal. We then met with our research groups to discuss what kind of project we wanted to start collecting data for. We seem to be coming up with some great ideas to address ecological questions. After that, some of us worked on our figure analysis for the day and some of us got ready for our exciting outing on the Club Med boat out at Telephone Pole Reef. Once 10:45 AM hit we were all on the truck ready to go.



We traveled down to the town store to make our field lunch even tastier, but when we arrived we realized that today is Sunday and the store was unfortunately closed. So we then proceeded to turn around and go to our trusty snack shack "Wendy's". A few of us got the amazing ice cream and some got some other snacks.

After grabbing our snacks we drove to the beach and had our field lunch while trying to stay out of the sun.


Once we were done with lunch we drove over to the Club Med boat dock and met a few of the crew members. They helped us on to the boat and drove us out to the reef. The boat was spectacular and we all had an amazing time gazing at the bright blue waters. We then hopped off the boat and began looking at the reef and reef fish below. Many of us were hoping to see a shark because we were in a bit deeper water than normal but, we were unsuccessful. We did, however, see many parrotfish, damselfish, durgen fish and many many more. Tall purple coral was also spotted in the depths. We reboarded the boat and drove back to shore. Once we got back to the GRC some of us went across the street to the beach to continue our snorkeling journey. Here we saw so many fish including juvenile angelfish, sea cucumbers, flounders and barracuda.                                                             

To finish off the day we had dinner then class where we looked at pictures that were taken that day to try and identify the species we saw. We went over some of our homework and were told what to look forward to for tomorrow. Most of us are tired from the past few days excursions but a few of us decided to take Dr. Behrens to go night snorkeling at the beach across the street. We think that we are getting used to the temperature here because some of us were pretty cold in the water today. However, we are all very excited for what tomorrow has in store for us (NO HOMEWORK!!).

we at the hotel, motel, holiday inn 🏨

  Hello from the Bahamas! 🇧🇸 (for the last time 🥹) Friday morning marked our last day in San Salvador. For breakfast, we had pancakes and bacon, of course. We all found closure with the island in our ways, through final dips in the water, walks along the sand, and soaking up as much beach time as possible. All of us experienced mixed emotions as we prepared for our journey home. Some never wanted to leave, while others were ready for their own beds, pets, and family. Loose ends were tied, bags were packed and loaded, one last meal of pizza was had, and we all piled into Truck Y for the very last time.  We had one last stop at Wendys before boarding our flight to Nassau.  We landed in Nassau and were graciously greeted by our shuttle which had music AND AC!!! POV: Bahamian Basketball

Hello readers,  We started our day with a delicioso breakfast of eggs, bagels, muffins, and our daily orange juice. We were immediately ushered into the library to work on our research projects for most of the morning. Some made more progress than others, who engaged in a game of Great Bahamian Basketball.  Francine’s POV: Breakfast was great. We had eggs…let’s skip to the good part. After breakfast my group (Shannon, Sophia and I) decided to take a good 10 minute break after working on our proposal for what seemed like years. We stumbled upon Kailee playing ball with Mike, Angie and a few of our other classmates. They needed to pick up the pace. I need action, I need agility, I need it all. This lead to me becoming side coach. Honestly Mike was looking like Jebron Lames. All jokes aside Mike still got it, but I must say Angie was towering over Mike like he was 5’2.
