Multi snork day!
Today we had our last full day on the beautiful island of San Salvador! We started the day with a yummy breakfast of french toast, pancakes, sausage and bacon. Then we headed off to club med to hop on the dive boat. We all reminisced of our last time at club med wishing we could escape and run off. Simon took us to Captain Wes’s boat where he took us to the south side of the island. We started at a shallow reef, south of telephone pole. We saw many cool fish such as parrot fish, blue chromis, and black durgon. After that we went to the wall, which was where the ocean dropped into the deep blue. We saw massive barracuda, a caribbean reef shark, and a school of jacks. This was where we took the annual tropical marine ecology snorkeling picture. We also saw many coral “Christmas trees”. Which is PVC pipe where coral is allowed to grow without competition with algae so that it can hopefully relocate and be successful in dying reefs.
After some miscommunication about lunch we ate some yummy sandwiches and some veggie lasagna. After lunch we had to free time to work on our projects, figure analysis, or snork the pipe. Toby had a record breaking 4 snork day today!🎉🎊 Some laid on the beach and some swam near Grahams Harbor enjoying out last full day at Gerace. We had early class today at 4:30 to go over our last two papers. One was about ocean warming and ocean acidification and its effects on coral settlement and early development. Our second paper was on how sea urchins are beneficial for caribbean coral species.
After class we had our last dinner at Gerace of bbq chicken and rice. We had the night off, some decided to stay and rest or work on projects while others went on a night snork. During the night snork we saw turtles, box jellies and a very scary shrimp. We also saw some lion fish which convinced mike to lionfish some of us( when mike grabs our feet and pulls us under or pushes our heads down under the water). It was very cold so we decided to leave and warm up by going to the bar. At the bar we played games like biberbande and qwinto. After many games of mike losing we decided to walk home to get our last nights sleep before flying out tomorrow.
Thanks for tuning in tonight!

4 snorkels is record breaking? I think me, Zoe, Abby and Kennedy all have something to say about that one…
