Into the Deep End

Today started out earlier than most because we were going on the Club Med snorkeling boat again!! This was our last day of structured snorkeling so we were going to make the most of it. Waking up bright and early so we could get to the truck at 7:15am, groggy eyes soon were filled with excitement as we drove to the Club Med boat. As we stepped on the boat we were greeted by our friend David which you may remember from our first Club Med boat excursion. A quick boat ride brought us out to our first destination, A SHIPWRECK! This old ship wrecked in the early 1900s and still has some large parts that make good structure for fish and corals. After about 20 minutes we got back in the boat and headed to our second snorkeling spot called “the wall”. This spot was at the edge of the reef when the water depth dropped from 40 feet to 200+ feet. There was also an opportunity for a group photo opp, As well as, a monument dedicated to the landing of Columbus in the new world (San Salvador was his original landing spot). Blake was the only one who dared swim the 40 ft and successfully touched the monument. We explored the reef edge and were able to spot some reef sharks and large barracuda. The drop off was both terrifying and surreal!! After about 30 minutes David called us back to the boat where we dried off and headed back to the truck.

After returning around 9:30 we decided it was time to get to work. About half of the group laid on the beach trying half- heartedly to finish their figure analysis while basking in the sun while others took a nap or worked on their proposal.

We then refueled with a lunch of pasta bake, salad, rolls and delicious (and occasionally extra crunchy) cookies. After lunch we all went our ways with some feeling exhausted and going back to lay on the beach, and others feeling the cookie energy and powering through their work. Unsurprisingly many were also found doing the proposal presentation or second to last figure analysis which had been put off until the last possible second.

After waiting in line for dinner being eaten by mosquitos, we were treated with rice, chicken, green beans, curry vegetables and marble cake for dessert. We then headed to a quick (2 hour) class where we discussed our figure analysis and presented our proposals which we have been working on for the last week.

As we finally headed to the snack shack and then bed, we are all dreaming of the amazing food we will have as we all venture to Club Med for an all inclusive resort day tomorrow.
